Rebecca Scully-Leek Music has been producing music for radio, theatre, and student films since 2019, but Rebecca has been studying and writing music since she was a kid growing up in Los Angeles, California. Upon hearing the music for E.T., that was it for her.
Except it wasn't. Coming from a family of scientists, she double-majored in physics and music at the University of California at San Diego, and then pursued graduate music study at King's College London.
A bachelor's is all well and good, but how to pay the bills while pursuing music? Her computer-programming sister told her to read a few books on programming and get an IT job. So Rebecca worked as a self-taught computer programmer for financial analysts and traders while in LA and then in London, but her heart was always in music.
As well as being American, Rebecca is a dual British citizen, and is married to British Army Cavalry officer, Will. Although moving around the world with the Army has its challenges (as well as opportunities), supporting her husband and the British Army as a military spouse is extremely important to her. She loves her home state of California and her adopted country of Scotland, and she and Will hope to establish roots in both places when they can.
She and her husband have two cheeky monkey daughters, one bonkers spaniel, and a small family of geckos living with them in Muscat, Oman.
Rebecca has written music for the soon-to-be-released in 2024 indie short film "The Pursuit of Independence" (produced by Carried Dodds and directed by Sarah Grant), she's a member of the Society for Composers and Lyricists in Los Angeles, a member of the Alliance for Women Film Composers in Los Angeles, on the composer roster for Score-A-Score music library based in Los Angeles and New York City, a member of PRS for Music and the Ivors Academy, a member of ASMAC in Hollywood, CA. She has founded the Women Composers of MENA group with a view to creating performance opportunities and collaborations, and possibly forging links with other women composer-mentors in LA, NY and London for women composers in the Middle East.
Please contact her, she would love to hear from you.
